Like pavers, stone is available in a wide range of shapes, colors and textures. Commonly used wall stone include cut limestone ( gray, buff or brown in color ) which have a very uniform look. All the stones are close in thickness which makes it possible to create very balanced, level retaining wall.

Another popular choice is the irregular type wall stone. These normally vary a bit in thickness, size and shape. These will create a more natural, uneven look when finished. 

Flagging is very thin ( 2-3" usually ) and is normally used for paving patios or walkways. It too is available in a multitude of colors and shapes.
